GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2020

'Dining Island' was a bespoke commission for a compact city apartment with limited kitchen space. The brief called for an island bench with a built-in, extendable dining table that would spend the majority of it's time in a 2-seater configuration but which could expand to accomodate up to 6 seats when the clients are entertaining friends and family.

Joinery storage in the piece includes adjustable shelving for crockery, a 20-bottle wine rack and bookshelves.

The island benchtop is not actually concrete, but is made from Kobeboard - an environmental friendly composite material combining the best properties of wood and cement. The manufactured board comprises a highly compressed mixture of sustainable plantation eucalyptus wood particles, Portland cement, mineralizing agents and water.

* As with all Sawdust Bureau pieces, this design is made to order, therefore every aspect is fully customisable. Feel free to contact us to discuss your exact specification. *
